The Space Between the Suns Eps. 00-02

Introducing The Space Between the Suns, a weird fantasy Starforged Actual Play Podcast

Episodes can be listened to or downloaded here, though embeds are also below (though I don’t think those come with download links).

Ep. 00 – World, Character, and Region Creation
Ep. 01 – Flora & Hum
Ep. 02 – Roars of Challenge

Hi all,

I’ve been busy editing the conclusion of Hob and the blood-stained blade’s first arc, but I wanted to play an RPG and wanted to try out Starforged, Shawn Tomkin’s sci-fi follow up to Ironsworn. I didn’t want to add another writing project before finishing the last, so I thought to try journaling through audio this time. Also, I decided I wanted to switch the sci-fi setting for weird or psychedelic fantasy and use spidersandals’ Steelforged oracles to do so.

The Space Between the Suns depicts a fantasy world where folks are finally looking outward to their neighbors after the cataclysm stranded them from culture and kin when the waypoints stopped working. Saphyr the Navigator of the South Wind searches for Hearthwind to reconnect the houses of their faction, finding trouble the moment they first arrive to the Grieving Empires in search of their banner-mate, Nadra.

I tried to do a decent job of expressing the actual play of the game, like talking my way through oracle interpretations and move decisions or otherwise showing my notes. Though I do try to add some narrative or dramatic flourish when able.

Session 00 is a bit rough. There was a bit of a recording learning process, and I’m exceptionally rambling as I plod my way through world creation. So there’s a summary of world and character creation at the beginning of Session 01 before I start playing in case folks want to skip it.

In Sessions 01 and 02, Saphyr arrives to Whitecairn, a plagued and poisoned settlement, hoping to find some clue to find Freereach and reconnect with Nadra.

Here’s a quick rough idea sketch and sloppy coloring I did right after Session 01 of Saphyr arriving to Whitecairn. I hope to focus on some more art for this (actually color stuff for once) but it probably won’t be until after I wrap up the Hob’s Edge arc.

Anyways, thanks for listening, y’all!
